Frequently Asked Questions
The following questions seem to come up the most. If these don't answer your question, please contact us.
Am I allowed representation when meeting with Administration?
Yes. Contact us.
What about adjuncts?
Sorry, but under Federal and State laws, adjuncts can't be represented by the AAUP.
What does having a Continuing Contract mean? ("Do I have tenure?")
In the State of Florida, holding Continuing Contract means that you have a right to due process. In other words, you can't be terminated without cause. This is not "tenure" (i.e., job for life) in the truest sense, as our northern colleagues have, but it is a strong level of protection from political dismissals. In 2013 the legislature limited our due process rights by inserting the post-award review process, which opens the door to possible loss of due process on 5-year intervals. To our knowledge, no faculty have lost their continuing contract due to the post-award review (11 June 2018).
